Some people love the idea of being seen. Others find it the scariest thing on a cam site. Both are perfectly reasonable. This page is about doing cam2cam, if you want to, without putting your privacy at risk.

What cam2cam is

Normally video goes one way: you see the performer, they see your username. In a cam2cam session you also share your webcam, so the performer can see you. It usually happens inside a private show, and on many sites it’s switched on with a button once the private has started.

Your camera never turns on by itself. You click to start it, and then your browser asks permission to use the camera and microphone. Nothing is sent until you click Allow. See do cam models see you? for how this works in normal rooms.

Who sees your video

On the established platforms, only the performer in your private show. Your video isn’t shown in the public room, and spies watching the private show don’t see it.

It stops when you turn it off, or when the private show ends. Nothing is kept by the site for others to watch later.

The real risk: recording

Any video on any screen can be recorded with a phone or screen-capture software. Platforms forbid performers from recording viewers, and on big sites performers who break that rule lose their accounts and income. Still, you’re relying on rules, not on technology.

So the safe approach is the simple one: only show what you’d be comfortable with someone else having. For most people that means keeping the face out of frame.

Setting up your camera safely

A few minutes of preparation makes cam2cam much lower risk.

Angle the camera so your face isn’t in the picture. Tilting a laptop screen down or putting a phone on a lower shelf does it.

Look at the background in your camera app before you start. Remove family photos, letters with your name and address, framed certificates, a window with a recognizable view, and anything with a company logo.

Use a neutral room and turn off overhead lights that show off the whole space. A single lamp lights you without lighting the room.

Mute your microphone if you don’t want your voice heard. Most sites let you share video without audio.

What it costs

Some sites include cam2cam in the private show rate. Others charge a little extra a minute. The price appears before you start. Our private shows explained page covers how per-minute billing works.

When to say no

If anyone asks you to do cam2cam outside the platform, on Skype, WhatsApp, FaceTime or similar, decline. It’s against the rules on every major site, and it’s how sextortion scams start: someone records you on an app the platform can’t monitor and then demands money. Our romance scam warning signs explain how these approaches usually begin.

Stay on the platform, keep your face out of shot, and cam2cam is about as safe as anything online gets.
