Ask what a cam site costs and you’ll mostly get vague answers. The truthful one is that it’s up to you. You decide every single expense, and nothing is charged automatically unless you sign up for a membership. Below, each cost one at a time, then four examples of what people typically spend.
Start with tokens
Almost every cam site has its own currency, called tokens or credits, sold in packs. You buy a pack and spend it bit by bit.
On token sites (
Chaturbate,
Stripchat,
BongaCams,
MyFreeCams), a token is worth about 5 to 11 cents, depending on how many you buy. The starter pack is usually 100 tokens for $10 or $11.
Credit sites (
LiveJasmin, Flirt4Free) work differently: a credit is worth about $1. The prices on screen look much lower, but you’re not paying less.
Bigger packs bring the price per token down, sometimes by 20% or more. Tempting, but stick to small packs until you know how you actually use the site. The tokens guide explains the conversion, and our price table by platform has the current packs.
What each thing costs
Watching public rooms
Free, on free-to-watch sites. You can watch the shows and read the chat without paying anything, and a lot of people never go further than that.
Tips
A tip can be a single token. Most are somewhere between 5 and 50 tokens, so roughly 50 cents to $5. Performers post a tip menu with what they offer and what it costs. See how to tip and what’s normal.
Private shows
One-to-one, charged by the minute. Performers set their own rate within the site’s limits. Roughly:
- On token sites, 30 to 90 tokens a minute, which is about $2.50 to $9. Plenty of performers sit around $3 to $5.
- On premium sites, $1.50 to $6 a minute, more for the most popular performers.
The rate is on screen before you start, and you can leave whenever you like. More in private shows explained.
Fan clubs
Joining one performer’s fan club usually costs $10 to $50 a month, paid in tokens. See fan clubs and subscriptions.
Site memberships
Some platforms sell a site-wide membership, like Chaturbate’s Supporter plan ($19.95 a month) or Stripchat’s Ultimate plan ($19.99 a month). You get extras such as private messages or no ads. These renew automatically until you cancel them.
Four typical spenders
| Profile | What they do | Typical monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| The curious visitor | Watches public rooms a few evenings a month, never tips | $0 |
| The occasional tipper | One 100-token pack a month, tips a favorite performer a few times | $10 to $25 |
| The conversationalist | Two short private chats a month (about 10 minutes each) plus some tips | $60 to $120 |
| The regular | One fan club, a site membership, weekly tips and an occasional private show | $150 to $300 |
One evening, in tokens
A first evening on a free-to-watch site might go like this:
- You buy the smallest pack, 100 tokens for about $11.
- You find a friendly room. You tip 10 tokens to say hello and 25 to ask for a song. That’s 35 tokens.
- Later the room hits a goal everyone’s been chipping in for, and you add 20 tokens.
- You log off with 45 tokens left for another night.
You’ve spent about $6, and there’s $5 left in your account.
Keeping it predictable
- Pick a monthly figure before your first purchase. Write it down somewhere.
- Buy small packs. You can always buy another.
- Use a prepaid card loaded with that month’s budget. When it’s empty, you’re done for the month. See gift and prepaid cards.
- Switch on the site’s own limits if it has them. Our spending limit guide shows where they are.
- Hold off on memberships that renew automatically until you’re sure you’ll use them.
