Before you hand a card to any website, it’s fair to ask who’s behind it and what’s gone wrong in the past. We looked at
Stripchat’s operator, billing and record, including the less flattering parts.
Who runs it
Stripchat launched in 2016 and is operated by Technius Ltd, a company in Nicosia, Cyprus. In a few years it became one of the largest cam platforms in the world. In December 2023 the European Commission counted it among the handful of adult sites big enough to fall under the strictest rules of the EU’s Digital Services Act.
How it handles payments
Stripchat doesn’t process cards itself. Payments go through established processors, including Epoch and SegPay, both long-standing names in adult billing. Your card details never reach performers.
Statements show the processor plus TECHNIUS or TECHCHAT, never Stripchat. Details in Stripchat’s billing name.
Token purchases are one-off. Only memberships renew. Tokens are prepaid, so you can’t spend more than your balance.
The 2021 data exposure
In November 2021, a security researcher found one of Stripchat’s databases left online without a password. It held tens of millions of user records, including usernames, email addresses, IP addresses and the amounts users had tipped. The researcher alerted the company and it was locked down within about two days.
Stripchat said passwords, payment details and ID documents weren’t exposed, and it notified data protection authorities. It isn’t known whether anyone copied the data before it was secured.
It’s a fair reason for caution, and a good illustration of why we always suggest a separate email address and a username with nothing personal in it. If an incident like this happens on any site, there’s nothing in the data that leads back to you. How to stay anonymous on cam sites shows how.
EU regulators
In May 2025, the European Commission ended Stripchat’s “very large platform” status after its EU user numbers fell, and on the same day opened formal proceedings into whether it does enough to keep minors off the site. In October 2026 an EU court upheld the original 2023 designation. These cases are about age checks in Europe rather than how the site treats paying adults, but they’re part of the record.
In the US, Stripchat checks ages in states whose laws require it. See cam site ID verification.
The risks you’re more likely to meet
Fake copies and “free token” offers. Scam sites copy Stripchat’s look to steal logins and cards. Always type stripchat.com yourself, and ignore anything promising free tokens. See Stripchat free tokens: what’s real.
Requests to move off the platform. Anyone who wants to continue on WhatsApp or Telegram and then asks for gift cards, transfers or crypto is running a scam. Our romance scam warning signs explain how these approaches usually go.
Unofficial apps. Stripchat links its own app through a QR code at the bottom of its site. Don’t install a “Stripchat app” from anywhere else. The website also works fully on phones. See using cam sites on your phone.
Overspending. Long private shows are the usual culprit. Buy only the tokens you mean to spend.
Our verdict
Stripchat is a legitimate, established platform with proper billing and a known operator. It isn’t spotless, and the 2021 exposure is a reason to protect yourself the way you should on any site: separate email, neutral username, two-step login, and payment through the official checkout only. Do that, and it’s one of the best places to start, especially on a phone or tablet.
