Plenty of people don’t come to cam sites for the shows. They come for a nice, attentive conversation with someone interesting at the end of the day. Some sites, and some kinds of room, are far better for that than others.

What we looked for

  • Chat culture. Is the room about talking, or about tips triggering things?
  • Room size. With a smaller audience, the performer can actually read what you write and answer.
  • Private sessions. Calm and stable, with no pressure to hurry.
  • Filters. Can you search by language, interests or age?

Our picks

MyFreeCams has the strongest conversation culture we’ve come across. Regulars and performers know each other well, rooms feel like a social club, and many performers keep regular hours. It looks old-fashioned, but nowhere is friendlier.

LiveJasmin is the one for one-to-one conversation away from the noise of public rooms. Sessions are calm, picture and sound are excellent, and performers are used to long, relaxed private chats.

Flirt4Free is popular with older performers and viewers, and its community has been around long enough to have plenty of rooms built around talking. Being able to phone support is a bonus.

Chaturbate is the biggest site, and its busy rooms can be chaos. But with so many people online, there are always quieter rooms where conversation comes first. You just have to know how to find them.

Finding the talkers on any site

  1. Sort by fewest viewers. Somewhere between 10 and 80 is ideal.
  2. Read the room topic. Look for “chatting”, “talk to me”, “hang out”, “coffee”, “ask me anything”.
  3. Look at the profile. People who mention hobbies, books, travel or languages usually like a chat.
  4. Filter by language if you want to talk in your own, or brush up on another.
  5. Try the mature section. A lot of readers find conversation comes more easily with someone closer to their own age.

There’s more in finding performers you’ll enjoy talking to.

Public chat or private?

Public chat is free, but you’re sharing the performer with everyone else. It’s a good way to get to know someone before paying for private time.

A private session is charged by the minute, and you get their full attention. For a 15-minute conversation, allow somewhere between $30 and $90 depending on the site. See private shows explained.

Fan clubs often come with private messaging, which is a cheaper way to stay in touch between visits. See fan clubs explained.

Making conversation

Performers like talking to people who are curious and kind. Ask about their day, what they’re into, where they’ve traveled. Leave out personal questions about their real name or where they live, and bear in mind that in a public room they may be keeping several conversations going at once. The etiquette guide has more.

One last thing

Talking to the same person regularly can feel like a real connection, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Keep it on the platform and keep to your budget. And know that real performers never ask for money outside the site. See romance scam warning signs.
